A new legal framework will regulate and facilitate the Albanian diaspora issues.
On Friday, January 12, 2018, the Council of Ministers approved the Draft Law on Diaspora regarding the rules and competences of the state authorities responsible for relations with the Albanian communities abroad.
Among other things, the draft law provides the establishment of several Cultural Centers on Diaspora in destination countries.
The National Historical Museum will have a separate diaspora pavilion. The National Library, in cooperation with the Ministries responsible for education and culture, will provide free access to online educational and literature textbooks, dedicated to Diaspora’s interests.
Meanwhile, the Albanian Radio-Television will start a new radio-television channel that will broadcast programs for Diaspora. The cost of broadcasting and other related expenditures regarding the programme production devoted to Diaspora will be borne by the state budget.
In addition, the successful Diaspora members will be awarded with the “Ambassador of the Nation” prize. The award criteria will be determined by the Council of Ministers.
The law proclaims December 18 as a National Diaspora Day.
